CSMCPO O'Dell has been a member of the TRMN since 18 September 2012.

I joined the GSN at DragonCon 2012, or at least I thought I did as it appears that my application was misplaced. Being somewhat stubborn, I sent messages off to all, and finally was officially enlisted on 18 SEP 12. All was good. Started taking the enlisted exams, joined the crew of the (soon to be) GNS Barbara Bancroft SD-32, found out I had at some point been promoted from Spacer 3rd to Spacer 2nd, the that pesky "real life" thing intervened and my activities were pretty much confined to just staying in contact via the interwebs. On 8 SEP 13, just 10 days short of my 1 year anniversary here, I was accepted as Yeoman to the Command Senior Master Chief of the Academy and as an Enlisted Academy Assistant Instructor, willing and able to impart my wit and wisdom to the unwary newly enlisted sailors subjected to my gentle ministrations. The appointment also came with a brevet to Petty Officer 1st Class.

At this point my intentions are to remain enlisted, although I will most likely be taking the upper level exams primarily for the purpose of advancing my tech career. I believe my personality best fits the "grizzled old salt who has been in the navy since Jesus was a Seaman Recruit" persona.

As for some real life info as to who this arrogant old sumbitch is...? Lets see ... I was born and raised in Washington State, but have lived in Georgia for the past 25 years. Married to a lovely ginger, who is also a geek. How do I know this? Well, the fact we got married at DragonCon, in costume, was a pretty good first clue for me. And clues are important, because according to my wife and friends, most clues generally fly past me at about 30,000 feet. I believe they are trying to say I'm a bit clueless, or can't take even the most obvious hints, or somesuch. I don't know, I haven't got a clue. Anyhow, we both enjoy going to Cons and costuming; Her mostly various Doctor Who costumes (she's knit not 1, not 2, but 3 Tom Baker scarves), me, well, a variety of different things (Peacekeeper from Farscape, Dale from the Walking Dead, Werewolf of London ... things like that) and we have both kitted up as Browncoat Independent Army soldiers in the DragonCon Parade since 2007. Got a wonderful daughter, who I tried my best to geekify as she was growing up but to no avail, however she has given me the most adorable twin granddaughters a man could ever want.

I have a BA in History from Sac State University (or as it was known when I went there, Cal State-Sacramento), Spent 6 years enlisted in the US Air Force (Passenger/Cargo services), 4 years US Army enlisted (Intelligence & Imagery Analyst), and 6 years US Army Officer (Mech Infantry). Odd choices for service considering both my parents were US Navy (My dad a Medical Corpsman on the USS Princeton CVS-37, my mom a Medical Admin clerk at Norfolk Naval Hospital) and my Grandpa was a US Marine during WW2. Civilian occupations have included things such as radio DJ (KEGR-FM, Concord CA), Teacher, Restaurant Manager, Substitute Teacher, and Steelworker (until the economy went south a few years back). I currently work for a major grocery chain (meh. not the best job in the world, but its a job, I work with some good folks, and the grocery discounts are nice).
